Developing A Healthy Lifestyle

Lifestyle is the attitudes, interests, behaviors, and cultural orientations of a person, group, or society. The word was first introduced by Austrian psychiatrist Alfred Adler in his 1928 book, The Case of Miss R. with the suggestion of replacing the phrases “the culture” and “the environment.” In its modern usage, the term still describes the way people perceive the world around them, but the focus is now more on how people interpret and interact with that world.

It is a broad concept which encompasses all aspects of human thought and action, including education, politics, business, and psychology. The causes of most complex psychological disorders are not easy to pinpoint. Some experts believe that the root of unhealthy lifestyle is the work lifestyle, the family life style, the sex life, and the dependence on drugs and alcohol.

There are many causes of dysfunctional behavior; however, the most common ones include neuroticism, cynicism, guilt, depression, dysfunctional relationships, low self-esteem, and powerlessness. These problems are usually present in the childhood years, and may cause serious difficulties in adulthood. Many experts believe that changing your lifestyle can improve your life style and health. This means that you need to get rid of your bad habits such as smoking cigarettes, engaging in risky activities such as driving, consuming excessive alcohol, and indulging in sexual practices that are not considered healthy.

Conclusion

You also need to develop a positive attitude and learn to develop rewarding and enjoyable life style. Changing to a healthy lifestyle is not easy, especially for those who have been using the same unhealthy life style for a long time, but it is definitely worth the effort because you will be able to live a healthy, satisfying, and tension free life.
