An Introduction To Travel

Travel is the movement of individuals between different, usually remote geographical areas. Travel can take place by car, plane, train, bicycle, foot, boat, bus or any other mode of transport, with or without personal luggage, and is one way or an round trip journey. When traveling by land, one can take a road trip, by rail, sea or air and through all modes of public transportation such as trains, planes, taxis and subways. However, when traveling by sea or air, a passport is required.

Traveling has become a popular pastime and has been in existence for centuries, dating back to the 7th Century BC, when merchants would set sail from one country to another. With the advancement in technology, people travel a lot faster these days, by car, train or plane, or even walking or cycling. For business executives, frequent travelers and tourists, traveling is a necessity due to the fact that they need to go to multiple places in a short time frame. Some people travel simply for the fun factor and others do it for business purposes.

The tourism industry contributes heavily to the economies of many countries and is one of the driving factors behind tourism. Tourism is a form of economic activity that supports local employment opportunities and is also a major driver of international trade. Tourism can also be beneficial to developing nations who wish to develop their tourism sector and increase their infrastructures. With the influx of international tourists and people looking for a good vacation spot, there is sure to be a booming tourism industry in any country.
